Course Description: Strategic intelligence is a broad term pertaining to the collection, processing, analysis and dissemination of intelligence. For the purpose of this course, the scope of strategic intelligence will be limited strictly to the fields of law enforcement and homeland security.  Strategic intelligence is necessary to assist senior agency decision-makers and executives in their decision-making efforts.  This type of intelligence is essential to identify long-term trends surrounding threats or potential threats to an organization.  Strategic intelligence is forward thinking, relying heavily on its’ predictive capabilities – anticipating future behavior based on past actions or expected capabilities.  Effective strategic intelligence requires analysts with subject-matter expertise and an ability to adapt to an ever-changing law enforcement and societal environment.

The purpose of this 3-day training course is to provide participants with a practical understanding of strategic intelligence.  The students will gain an introductory understanding of the different intelligence disciplines, with a focus on the effective delivery of strategic intelligence to the decision-maker.  In addition, it will provide students with a general understanding of the Intelligence Community.  Students will be required to perform in-class research on a specific topic and brief their results to the class.  This exercise is designed to simulate briefing decision-makers, encouraging students to provide analytical support for conclusions, recommendations, and proposed courses of action.
